AI price guide
The Ensurva AI Price Index tracks the list price of the AI models businesses build on, every week. Compare them, estimate what your team would spend, and see how prices have moved, with every price linked to its source.
Ensurva AI Price Index
US$1.79 per million tokens
Weekly, in US dollars per million tokens. It falls when providers cut prices and rises when the newest models launch dearer than the ones they replace. Pick a provider to lay its own models' prices over the index.

Each model's score on Epoch AI's Capabilities Index against its blended price. Up is more capable, left is cheaper. The shaded corner holds the models that beat the median on both.

Tell us who will use AI and what you want it to do, and see what it costs on each AI vendor's own plans. The By tokens tab prices a token workload on every model and what each change takes off the bill. Estimates only.
For example, General office: 10 people. 12 people in total.
How many times a month for each job. For example, 300 if you sign about 300 contracts a month.

The cheapest model in the index costs a fraction of the dearest. Choosing the model is usually the biggest cost decision in an AI project.

The Ensurva AI Price Index answers one question: what does it cost, at list price, to use a typical current AI model through its API? It is quoted in US dollars per million tokens.
Each model gets one price, its blended price: 70% of its input rate plus 30% of its output rate. Most production work reads far more than it writes, and a fixed weighting keeps every model on the same footing. Cached input, batch and priority rates are left out.
The index is the geometric mean of the blended prices of every model in the basket. Each model counts equally, and a change of a given percentage moves the index by the same amount whether it happens to a cheap model or a dear one. An ordinary average would be dominated by the most expensive few: today it would read US$4.17 against the index's US$1.79.
The history is worked out from the same price records for every Friday since the basket began, so correcting a past price corrects every week it touched. A new model joins at its own price, and a model that leaves takes its price with it, so the index tracks what the market charges now rather than any one model's price over time.
Published list prices, not what any organisation pays. Real bills are usually lower: negotiated discounts, shorter prompts, caching, routing simple work to cheaper models, batch processing and cloud credits all reduce them. The savings calculator models those levers.
Tokens are not the same size everywhere. Each provider splits text into tokens its own way, and the same English text can take noticeably more tokens on one model than another. The index does not adjust for this, so per-token prices slightly flatter models whose tokeniser produces more tokens.
Some providers charge more for very long prompts or at peak hours. The index uses each model's standard rate for its base context band.
Take the natural log of each blended price, average the logs, then raise e to that average. With 25 models the logs sum to 14.5154, average 0.5806, and e to the power of that is US$1.7871.

A model has to meet all seven. The basket is reviewed weekly.
01
Sold through a paid public API
Anyone can sign up and pay for it by the token. Models only in a free preview, a waitlist or a private beta are left out until they have a price.
02
A published price per million tokens
The provider states input and output prices in US dollars per million tokens. Where sources disagree by more than 20%, the model waits until they settle.
03
General-purpose text
It handles everyday text work: writing, summarising, reasoning, code. Embedding, image, speech and narrowly specialised models are out of scope.
04
Widely used
It is a provider's flagship, its main mid-range model or its main fast model, or it carries real production traffic. Every niche variant would only add noise.
05
Current
It is generally available and not announced for retirement within 90 days. When a model is replaced within its own line, its successor takes the slot at the next review, at whatever it costs.
06
Bought on its own
It can be selected and billed as a distinct model. A provider can hold several slots, one per distinct model a buyer would actually choose between.
07
Spread across providers
The basket always covers at least six providers, and no provider holds more than 30% of its places, so one company's pricing cannot move the index on its own.
A month is 30 days and a year 365. The levers apply in the order below, each to what the one before left. Prompt engineering and infrastructure are our own illustrative assumptions, because what they save depends on the organisation. Caching uses each model's published cache read price on the share of input shown, and saves nothing on a model without one. Batch work is priced at 50% off, the batch discount the major providers publish. Routing sends the share shown to the cheapest fast-tier model in the index, and only where that is cheaper. Typical job sizes, in tokens in and out: email summary 2,500 in and 250 out; support reply 1,500 in and 300 out; blog post draft 1,500 in and 2,000 out; code review 10,000 in and 1,000 out; document question 8,000 in and 400 out; contract summary 15,000 in and 1,000 out. The By use case tab prices a team on each vendor's own plans: software developers, who use AI for about 15% of their working hours against about 6% across all workers (Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, 2026), get the heavier seat where a plan has one; content, support and finance staff fit a standard seat, and general office staff use AI least.
