Comments were split fairly evenly. Several were about GST: one customer said OpenAI's AUD charge already included GST, leaving it about A$15 to A$20 a month cheaper than a comparable Claude plan, while another found the only saving was avoiding GST by changing billing country. A June 2026 OzBargain thread on a discounted Business promotion drew complaints from people who had paid the full A$35 a seat and expectations that prices will keep rising. Others said Plus or Business is good value for its limits, and one Pro customer said the weekly Codex allowance did not reset with the billing date.

ChatGPT pricing questions

ChatGPT Free costs nothing. Go is A$13 a month, Plus A$30 and Pro from A$155, all including GST. Business is A$35 a seat a month, or A$28 paid yearly, for 2 to 200 people, and premium seats are A$175, or A$140 paid yearly. Business prices exclude GST. Enterprise is priced on request.

It depends on the plan. OpenAI's checkout data for Australia marks Go, Plus and Pro as including 10% GST, so Plus is A$30 a month all in, and Business as excluding it, so GST is added to A$35 a seat. This page shows each plan the same way. Department of Finance FOI invoices show no GST charged on Business where an ABN was supplied. App Store purchases are billed by Apple, whose Australian prices include GST.

Yes, for web subscriptions: chatgpt.com shows Australian visitors AUD prices, and OpenAI's billing help lists AUD for Australia. Existing subscribers keep their original billing currency, so moving to AUD means cancelling and subscribing again once the period ends. The API is billed in US dollars only.

Plus and Pro are for one person each. Pro comes in three tiers, Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500, with more usage at each, and only Pro 500 includes Ultrafast. Business is a shared workspace for 2 to 200 people with company context and admin, in standard seats or premium seats with 5 times the usage and no 5-hour limit.

Only on Business. A standard seat is A$28 a month paid yearly against A$35 paid monthly, 20% less, and a premium seat A$140 against A$175. Go, Plus and Pro are monthly only, with no annual or multi-month prepay.

No. The OpenAI API is billed separately on platform.openai.com, in US dollars, from prepaid credits with a minimum top-up of US$5 that expire after a year. GPT-6.1 Sol is US$2 per million input tokens and US$10 per million output tokens; GPT-6 Astra is US$10 and US$50; GPT-6 Luna is US$0.10 and US$0.50.

In US dollars, Plus has stayed at US$20 a month. ChatGPT Team was US$30 a seat a month and became Business on 29 August 2025 at the same price. On 2 April 2026 OpenAI cut Business to US$25 a month, or US$20 paid yearly. Pro launched in December 2024 at US$200, with a US$100 tier added in April 2026 and a US$500 tier in September 2026. Premium Business seats arrived in August 2026 at US$125. In AUD, Go has been A$13 since January 2026 and Plus A$30 since at least February 2026.

ChatGPT pricing sources and methodology

From OpenAI's public checkout pricing configuration for Australia, read on 18 October 2026, with OpenAI's help centre for plan rules. chatgpt.com/pricing and openai.com/business/pricing, as shown from an Australian connection the same day, show the same amounts where they show an AUD price. The business pricing page shows only the yearly AUD price for premium seats; the monthly A$175 comes from the checkout data.

OpenAI's checkout data for Australia marks Go, Plus and Pro as including 10% GST and Business as excluding it, and prices here follow it: the personal plans including GST, as buyers see them, and Business seats excluding GST. That agrees with the earlier evidence, which had looked mixed: an OzBargain listing in June 2026 gave Business as A$35 a month plus GST, and one Australian customer said in August 2026 that their AUD Pro charge already included GST. A business that supplies an ABN may not be charged GST on Business at all, as on the Department of Finance FOI invoices.

Estimates from list prices: Go, Plus and Pro including GST, Business excluding it. Free, Go, Plus and Pro serve one person each, so two or more people are priced on Business. Premium seats are priced when entered. Extra usage credits are added at cost, because OpenAI does not publish a credit's price. API tokens are priced on the chosen model from Ensurva's AI price guides, in US dollars converted to AUD at the European Central Bank reference rate (1 USD = 1.447 AUD, 15 October 2026); no ChatGPT plan includes API credits. Company size assumes every employee gets a standard seat and no extra usage. Enterprise is not priced.

ChatGPT Pro is listed once, at A$155 including GST, the starting price chatgpt.com shows Australians, which is the Pro 100 tier. OpenAI sells all three tiers from its pricing page; Pro 200 at A$300 and Pro 500 at A$770 a month, both including GST, come from its checkout data and are listed as additional costs. The Australian App Store sells the same tiers at prices that round to the same whole amounts.

The API table comes from the same data as Ensurva's AI price guides, read from OpenAI's own pricing pages, in US dollars per million tokens.

AUD prices from dated observations: OpenAI's pricing page, OzBargain listings and a press report of the Go launch. The earliest AUD price found is January 2026, and archived copies of the pricing page could not be retrieved, so the chart starts there. Monthly prices: Go, Plus and Pro including GST, Business excluding it. US price changes before then are in the pricing questions. A Pro renewal reported a cent below A$155 in September 2026 is left out as the App Store price, not a change.

Drawn from how OpenAI charges, not from records of negotiated deals.

21 public comments on ChatGPT's pricing from people identifiably in Australia between 4 May and 4 October 2026, from Reddit and OzBargain, collected by Ensurva on 16 October 2026. 11 are by confirmed customers. Mixed comments count as neutral. OzBargain posters are taken as Australian from the site's audience and their AUD prices. Reddit coverage is partial: rate limits stopped several searches. Cards are paraphrases of comments by confirmed customers; the full classified set is stored with the page's data.

Checked monthly against OpenAI's own pages.

The calculator's By use case tab puts each person on a seat that suits how heavily their role uses AI. Software developers use it most, about 15% of their working hours against about 6% across all workers (Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, 2026), so they get the heavier seat where the plan has one. Content, support and finance staff fit a standard seat, and general office staff use AI least. Each automated job is priced at a typical size, about 100 tokens to 75 words: a support reply reads about 1,100 words and writes 200, and a contract summary reads 10,000 and writes 750. Decision jobs read the record and give a short typed answer: about 600 words to route a support ticket, 4,500 to check a document against a policy. Those sizes are Ensurva's own estimates. A model that writes no text, such as Jev, is priced on decision jobs only. Jobs are priced as API use on the vendor's default model, less any API credits the plan includes.

Prices are estimates from OpenAI's published list prices on the date shown. Check chatgpt.com before buying.
